"Great To Be Nominated" Film Series to Feature 'Alexander's Ragtime Band'

Beverly Hills, CA — Alexander's Ragtime Band, starring Tyrone Power and Alice Faye, will be presented on Monday, August 9, at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Samuel Goldwyn Theater. The Best Picture nominee of 1938, which features more than two dozen of Irving Berlin's most popular songs, will screen at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Academy's continuing series "Great To Be Nominated."

Disney's Mother Goose Goes Hollywood, which received an Academy Award® nomination in the Cartoon Short Subject category of 1938, will be shown prior to the film as will the trailer for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, the final installment in this edition of the screening series. The evening's curtain music will be selections from the Oscar®-winning score composed by Erich Wolfgang Korngold from The Adventures of Robin Hood.

The program's early-bird bonus will be Cinema Circus, a short musical revue featuring Mickey Rooney, Boris Karloff and Martha Raye.

Tickets for each screening in the "Great To Be Nominated" series may be purchased on an individual basis at a cost of $5 each for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid I.D.
