MUSIC: Eminem Stops Papa Roach in Its Tracks
Extending his reign to five weeks, Eminem's "The Eminem Show" was on top of the album sales chart for the week ending June 23, according to SoundScan.
Eminem's latest sold 380,775 copies in its fourth full week of release, down just 28% from last week. Total sales climbed to 3.32 million, or about three eighths of the 8.7 million the rapper's previous album "The Marshall Mathers LP" sold. The sales bode well for his first big screen star turn in 8 Mile, which strikes theaters Nov. 8.
The rule of Eminem is expected to end this week, though, with the advent of rapper Nelly's latest "Nellyville."
Papa Roach infested the No. 2 spot—its highest chart position yet—with the debut of "lovehatetragedy," moving 135,775 units. The band's last album started at No. 48 on sales of 29,000 back in May 2000 en route to selling 3.2 million copies.
Though it only fell one spot to No. 3, Korn's "Untouchables" plunged 70% from its 434,125 first week to 132,250. The 566,375 it has sold in two weeks is less than the 574,000 units the band's last album "Issues" moved in its first week alone.
Canadian singer Avril Lavigne enjoyed a 25% sales boost to 87,525 copies and No. 5 for her debut disc "Let Go." After three weeks, it has sold 219,775 units.
Wyclef Jean bowed at No. 6 with "Masquerade," boasting sales of 81,500 units. His last album "The Ecleftic: 2 Sides II a Book" sold 95,000 copies out of the gate. Meanwhile, Our Lady Peace saw its highest charting and biggest sales week ever with "Gravity," which debuted at No. 9 on sales of 66,900 units.
Among other debuts, the first English-language release from Mexican pop singer Paulina Rubio "Border Girl" came in at No. 11, selling 56,000 copies. Her eponymous disc from 2000 has moved 374,000 units so far. Anastacia's "Freak of Nature" premiered at No. 27, former Alice in Chaines guitarist Jerry Cantrell's "Degradation Trip" bowed at No. 27, while DJ Paul Oakenfold's "Bunkka" landed at No. 65.
Disney's "Lilo & Stitch" leapt from No. 57 to No. 16 on sales of 45,262 units to rank as the top selling soundtrack of the week. It was followed by "Spider-Man" at No. 20, perennial "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" at No. 22, and "Scooby-Doo," which jumped 10 spots to No. 28.
