Tangled earned $26.3 million from 43 territories (which represent 55 percent of the foreign market). It placed first in all ten of its new regions and in a handful of holdovers as well. In Australia, Tangled had the biggest non-sequel animated debut ever with $6.1 million. It also scored $6.1 million in its Brazilian opening, which was the highest start ever for a Disney animated movie. Brazil wasn't the only impressive Latin American haul, though, as the movie launched to $1.6 million in Argentina and $1 million in Colombia. Tangled has already roped in $175.9 million overseas and has yet to open in the United Kingdom, Spain, South Korea or Japan.
After relatively unimpressive earnings in most of its international territories, The Tourist came alive this weekend with $26.2 million. The Johnny Depp-Angelina Jolie thriller had a big $10.3 million opening in Russia. That made Russia the second highest-grossing territory for the movie behind Italy, and it will become the movie's top territory by next weekend. The Tourist also held first place in Spain with $1.9 million and was up a tick to $1.6 million in Germany. After a month in theaters, the movie has earned $100.4 million overseas.
Despite a sizeable $9.5 million debut in Russia, Gulliver's Travels dipped 15 percent to $20.8 million in 38 territories. This was due in no small part to its massive 78 percent post-Boxing Day decline in the U.K. The Jack Black comedy has thus far made $80.4 million, and opens this weekend in Brazil.
Little Fockers grossed $20.3 million from 49 territories for a total of $111.2 million. It opened in a handful of Latin American territories including Brazil, where it wound up in third place with $1.5 million. It also added $2.8 million in the U.K., $2 million in Germany and $1.7 million in France, and has debuts scheduled in Italy and Sweden this weekend.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader eased 12 percent to $17.8 million from 69 markets. Its only major opening came in China, where its $5.1 million start was a notable improvement over Prince Caspian's $3.9 million. With a $242.9 million overseas total and its Japanese debut yet to come, Prince Caspian's $278 million final total seems well within Dawn Treader's grasp.
Tron Legacy continued to cruise along, adding $17.6 million from 43 territories (around 75 percent of the marketplace). Through its fourth weekend, the sci-fi sequel has earned $143.2 million, and will pass $300 million worldwide (domestic plus foreign) by the end of the week.
Comedy Che Bella giornata opened to huge business in Italy with a $24.1 million five-day start ($15.2 million for the three-day frame). That's the top opening weekend on record there, besting Avatar's $13.9 million.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 further asserted the franchise's dominance, adding $8.8 million from 62 territories for an overseas total of $639.1 million. That's good for 11th on the all-time foreign chart, and its $926.9 million worldwide haul is good for 12th place on the all-time worldwide chart. Deathly Hallows Part 1 should pass Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix ($938.2 million) in the next week or two to become the second-highest grossing Harry Potter movie on a worldwide basis.
