Seven-Day Summary: 'Jackass 3-D' Already Tops First 'Jackass'
Over ten years after Jackass first debuted on MTV, the franchise may have reached a commercial high point with the massive first-week haul of Jackass 3-D. Business was solid elsewhere as well with the opening of Red and the hold of The Social Network. In spite of all of this, though, overall box office was off around three percent from the same timeframe last year when Where the Wild Things Are, Law Abiding Citizen, Paranormal Activity and Couples Retreat each earned over $20 million.

Jackass 3-D got off to a blazing start with $65.6 million at 3,081 theaters. This set a new Fall (Sept.-Oct.) opening week record, topping Scary Movie 3's $57.5 million. On Thursday, it passed Jackass: The Movie's $64.3 million total and will easily pass Jackass: Number Two's $72.8 million by Saturday at the latest. When adjusting for ticket price inflation and 3D premiums, though, Jackass 3-D still has a ways to go to match its predecessors in attendance. Regardless, Jackass is on pace to overcome The Town this weekend to become the highest-grossing movie of the fall, and it should have no problem cruising past $100 million by the end of its run.

While Jackass stole all the headlines this week, Red managed a respectable $28.5 million second place opening. This easily topped similar 2010 movies Cop Out, Killers and The Losers, though it trailed The A-Team. It also out-grossed Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman's last on-screen pairing, Lucky Number Slevin, in just four days.

After leading for the previous two weeks, The Social Network dipped 37 percent to $13.5 million for a third place finish. In 21 days, the David Fincher-Aaron Sorkin Facebook drama has earned $65.6 million.

Secretariat had the lowest decline of any nationwide release this week, easing 31 percent to $12.4 million for a $31.5 million total. It has now passed Flicka's final tally and will move past Dreamer by the end of the day.

Life as We Know It rounded out the Top Five by falling 40 percent to $11.8 million. The Katherine Heigl-Josh Duhamel romantic comedy has a 14-day total of $31.5 million.
