'Green Hornet' Adds 3D, Moves to 2011
Sony officially announced this afternoon that they have moved The Green Hornet from Dec. 22, 2010, to Jan. 14, 2011 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend), and will be converting the movie in to 3-D. As a result of this move, they also needed to transfer Priest, another 3-D release, from Jan. 14 to Mar. 4.

Based on Box Office Mojo's records, this is the sixth release date change for The Green Hornet. Originally scheduled for Summer 2009, it was ultimately pushed back to two dates in Summer 2010, then to two dates in December 2010. Executives at Sony have insisted the latest move was made solely in order to secure more time to convert to 3D, but moving out of a prime December spot to January doesn't necessarily display a bid of confidence. An adaptation of the 1930s radio show and 1960s TV show, The Green Hornet is directed by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Rogen stars as the titular hero, with Cameron Diaz and recent Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz also along for the ride. The Green Hornet will open opposite Tyler Perry's For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf and horror comedy The Cabin in the Woods (also in 3-D).

Priest, which was originally scheduled for 2007 and has occupied no fewer than six different release dates, will now open Mar. 4. The movie, based off a Korean comic series that is part-Western, part-supernatural horror, features Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Karl Urban and Christopher Plummer. It is currently the only new release scheduled for Mar. 4, 2011.
