COMPARISON: The Beatles' hits collection "1" was the top seller the weekend before Christmas last year, moving 1.26 million units.
OTHER DEBUTS: Nas was but one of eight rappers to enter the charts this week. Snoop Dogg protege rapper Lil' Bow Wow's "Doggy Bag" bow-wowed at No. 11 with 319,500 units sold. Wu-Tang Clan wooed 153,000 in sales at No. 32 with its "Iron Flag" disc, while Mystikal was right on their heels at No. 33 with "Tarantula." Jay-Z followed, selling 144,000 copies of his "MTV Unplugged" album. Ruff Ryders rode into the No. 38 spot with "Ryde or Die Vol. III: In the 'R' We Trust" on 131,000 units. Compilation disc "The Source Presents Hip Hop Hits - Volume 5" landed at No. 70 with 73,000, while Master P. was relegated to No. 72 on sales of 71,000 copies despite putting on his "Game Face."
Platinum = Certification of one million units shipped.
